Motorola V635 Review

 Motorola V635

The new V635 is an enhancement of the Motorola V620. The V635 reverts to a silver and black case instead of the all-black case of the V620, but apart from that they are physically very similar, being the same size and weight. It's quite a heavy phone as clamshells go, but it's one of the best specified camera phones available.

The key addition is the new 1.2 megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom, camera light and camcorder capability. This is a big step up from the 0.3 megapixel (VGA) camera on the V620. The internal display is the same as the V620 - it's a top-rate TFT display with 262k colours and a large 176x220 pixel resolution. Both the internal display and the camera are as good as anything you'll find on a mobile today. The external display isn't quite of the same quality - it's a CSTN display which can be difficult to read in bright sunlight, and has just 4k colours, but this is not unreasonable for a secondary display.

The next most welcome feature is the addition of a TransFlash memory card in addition to the 5 Mbytes of internal memory. This really lets you make good use of the multimedia capabilities of the phone, especially the video recorder and MP3 player.

The V635 also upgrades the GPRS connection to a high-speed EDGE connection, which is ideal for downloading video and audio content.

Overall it's hard to fault the V635. It's a phone that delivers on every count, the only shortcomings being it's high weight and cost.
